Psalm 23

We are doing a series "Summer In The Psalms" on Sunday mornings. This week we look at Psalm 23. Many of us know the traditional King James Version of this favorite Psalm but it is refreshing and thought provoking to look at other versions.

The Message by Peterson states, "GOD, my shepherd! I don't need a thing."

Some of the new translations even keep the older "I will not want or be in want..." Maybe the idea was to keep the memory alive of the one we learned as young people?

The NLTse states, "The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need." I like that translation! It seems more natural.

The TNIV declares, "The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing." Good but not great. I use the TNIV when I speak but the NLTse seems like a warmer translation than just saying "I lack nothing."

I am deeply dependant on my Shepherd for everything related to life and godliness. Nothing in my hand I bring...it is all Him!
